Debra Mixon Holliday

ARTIST BIO

A Florida native, Debra heeds a deep-rooted calling to bear witness to the natural environment of the region that she knows and loves. In executing the work, she seeks to integrate her perspective of artist and printmaker with a naturalist’s eye for flora and fauna.

Debra’s current focus is mixed media collagraph etching. She crafts collagraph plates from simple mat board and packaging materials, cutting into and using a variety of materials to build up the surface. The textured plate is inked and run through an artist’s press to transfer the image to paper. Debra then employs watercolor, transfers, and other media to complete each image. She feels using this low-tech method is an appropriate approach to convey the stories of the creatures and the environments that populate her work.

Debra holds a BA in visual arts from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida and a BA in English from the University of South Florida.
