ARTIST’S BIO
Born and raised in Hartselle, Alabama, Alan was introduced to gardening by his
grandmother, an experience that ultimately sparked his love of painting. After more than
thirty years in accounting and raising a family in North Georgia, he and his wife have
recently relocated to St. Augustine, Florida.
Over the past three decades, his artistic journey has led him to workshops, museums,
online training, and continual study of nature. His painting style has evolved from the
layered techniques of the Old Masters to the looser, more expressive approach seen in
his current work. He has been honored with the prestigious Jean Troemel Best in Show
and the Carl Steinsieck Award from the St. Augustine Arts Association, has been
featured in a still life painting book by Betsy Hosegood, and has received awards in
juried exhibitions and online competitions.
Influenced by the Dutch Masters, the Impressionists, and contemporary artists, he finds
inspiration in people, places, and objects—particularly in the interplay of light and
shadow. He works primarily in oil, occasionally in pastel, and is continually striving to
refine and expand his artistic skills.
